It should be a surprise to no one that Finn MacCool was not in fact born Finn MacCool. He was born as Calpurnius, a member of a rather prestigious family that also happened to be rather powerful in magic. Growing up, his home was a constant flurry of activity with siblings on either side of him, servants, apprentices (both in magic and the family business) Finn was usually able to slip away when everything was too much. [break][break]
It wasn’t like there was a lot resting on his shoulders, he wasn’t as powerful as some of his siblings in magic and he was in no position to even think about taking over the family business, but sometimes he did feel a little lost in the shuffle. A little forgotten. Those thoughts mixed with the danger of emotions and feelings is what led Finn to his own downfall. [break][break]
It’s the classic story of lonely boy meets handsome boy. [break][break]
Handsome boy charms lonely boy. They fall in love. [break][break]
They live happily ever after. Right? [break][break]

Finn met the older wizard in one of his many escapes from the house, and he was just different. Different class, different family, different powers, and Finn wanted different. They started out as friends, Finn hiding who he was thinking that would prevent any relationship between them, but it quickly developed into a close friendship, and eventually what Finn thought to be love. [break][break]
Finn was easily seduced, there is no other way to put it. The other wizard well, he was good at seducing to get what he wanted. He didn’t want Finn though. He wanted to ruin him and his family. [break][break]
With great power, comes people who are scared of that power. There were people in the village they lived in that wanted to strip Finn’s family of their power and prestige. This wizard was doing his part by fooling Finn, sneaking into his house late at night, and leaving the next morning with Finn’s heart and an important family heirloom. [break][break]
His family may have loved their son, but they were not understanding people. Not only had Finn let a stranger into their house late at night, he had stolen a family treasure along with who knows what else. They were also not too happy when Finn admitted the other man had spent the night with him. [break][break]
Finn’s family disowned him, quickly kicking him out and cutting off all ties with the boy who was no longer their son. He tried to find the other wizard, but some people reported they’d seen him leaving on an early morning ship out of the village. [break][break]
He felt his trust in people break in that moment, it was already a fragile thing, but the obvious betrayal that he hadn’t seen coming was just enough to shatter it to pieces. Finn spent a few years quietly traveling from place to place, settling in long enough to rest and re-stock his supplies when needed. It took a long time for him to even consider finding a new home, eventually he decided to make a home in the next town he came across, which just happened to by Symphonia. [break][break]
It took him a while after settling in to even think about approaching the people who lived in town, he knew what they were capable of to his kind after all, but he couldn’t live in solitude forever. He introduced himself as Finn MacCool, a silly name no doubt but a hero from one of his favorite legends. It seemed like a good name for a new start. [break][break]
