[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]BIOGRAPHY
[attr="class","hopelovetop"]
Davis was never great at 'school'.[break][break]
It wasn't that he lacked the willpower for it or anything -- he was excellent at pursuing the things he enjoyed doing. He could drive his uncle's lake boat by the time he was seven, and he knew how to reel in a good-sized bass, for god's sake, but that didn't seem to matter when he was failing half of his introductory math courses and couldn't remember what a preposition was. [break][break]
He was always more of an active learner, anyways. Needed to be moving to get his gears going, and he couldn't really move when he was trapped within the confines of a desk. [break][break]
His parents, bless their hearts, were appropriately worried. "What if my son gets bullied for falling behind," his dad would say, or "What if he can never get into a good college?" All very good, very understandable concerns.[break][break]
But turns out, Davis didn't really get bullied. Maybe laughed at behind his back, but he was never any the wiser to it. Instead, he became something of a local legend, being the 'cool funny older guy' in all of his classes. He was just funny enough to be heralded the prestigious title of 'class clown' without going so far as to invoke the ire of his instructors. He struck a nice balance, there.[break][break]
He was, for lack of better word, popular, and it worked out very nicely while it lasted. He didn't have to be good at school to enjoy the little things.[break][break]
Just as he was nearing junior year, his uncle passed away in a racing accident out on the open ocean. A typhoon had come through, a couple of miles out from the nearest coast, and his family packed up and moved away from Symphonia later that year -- "It's too close to the water," his dad would say, and Davis was obliged to agree. [break][break]
He graduated from high school with dismal grades and an even more dismal attendance record, but everyone expected that. Everyone wanted him to apply for colleges immediately, but he expressed that he really, really wanted to take a break, and his parents conceded. He could take a break there and work at his parent's sandwich shop to make cash, and that was fine for a while.[break][break]
But he couldn't really... stay away from Symphonia. Not for much longer. It's not that he was afraid of the ocean or anything -- typhoons, maybe, but not the water itself-- and he hadn't been fishing in ages.. He grew up there. All of his friends had been there. All of his everything had been there. [break][break]
So, the week after his twenty-third birthday, he moves back, simple as that. His parents stay behind, because Symphonia is really the last place they want to be right now, and Davis thinks that it's probably for the best. He gets a little place, gets a job, gets started in Symphonia again.[break][break] Half of his friends have moved on to bigger places, better things, but Davis isn't sure if his heart will ever leave the pier.
